Piru creek fly fishing?
Hey guys, has anyone fished Piru creek at Frenchman flats recently? Any reports would be appreciated, as far as what flies to use and if there is even a chance in catching trout even though it hasn't stocked for a while. Thanks

I haven't in a while but suggest you go look considering the great weather we are having. At this time of the year it can be chilly up there and this could affect the fish. Also note that this is a tailwater so flows also become an issue. You never know when it is high or low. Pyramid Lake above is supplemented by the CA Water Project so lake releases are not always a reflection of precipitation in the region. Now, all of this may seem complicated but it isn't. Perhaps the best advice is don't go when it is scorching hot like mid summer. Piru is not stocked by the DFG. You will find small wild fish for the most part. Handle them carefully and study the regs. The fish are not too selective so just be stealthy and your success will improve. Small flies of just about any sort are fine; the standard western fare. Dries or nymphs. Subsurface probably will serve you a tad better. You'll need an adventure pass last I checked.
